Longsword is more versatile. Estoc can attack while shield is up and has a better reach. Long sword is the better offensive weapon. Estoc is the better defensive weapon. Take your pick, they're both good for different reasons but the Balder Side Sword is the best of both worlds. this you dont need more. Estoc is similar and I feel it is a truly underappreciated weapon. As a side, I think it is the longest reaching thrusting sword I see now why you say the Estoc only has thrust attacks.At 40/40 STR/DEX it will do 375, 387 when Refined. At 10/40 it would be like 336 or so when Sharp, +/-1, only tested with 13/40. The only Estoc that is D/D is the one in Dark Souls 3, and that's only when it is completely unupgraded. One upgrade level changes it to D/C. Rapier is only better for critfishing and if you're doing pve you might as well critfish with dagger. rapier-can parry and weights less, but has shorter range and bounces off shields and people with perseverance. estoc-better range, better damage, doesnt bounce off.Except estoc is a quality weapon and not pure dex.... thank you. nobody seems to realize that. on a pure dex build the estoc only has 335 Attack rating but the Balder side sword has 384, that's 49 points! Not to mention the swag has an arguably better moveset, a bit more reach and the r1 doesn't suffer from the smaller hitbox of the estoc. JSConrad45. •. Estoc is a perfectly good weapon for PVE. It's not great (largely because of lower versatility, especially compared to something like the Balder side sword, and bottom-tier ability to stagger enemies), but a good weapon that suits you is better than a great weapon that doesn't. Its a great starting class for an adaptable build. Most ADP builds utilize specific miracles/sorceries such as fall control and situation things to give them an advantage, while keeping the INT and FAI stats at the minimum they need to be. They make great refined builds, so invest in DEX and STR as offensive stats. #1.
I'm experimenting with both. Both suck with stagger but I like the counter and reach with the estoc. But I think it's just not enough. What's the appeal of the uchi? Strength based weapons seem to do just as much damage but with higher poise stagger...BSS scales with a B rating in Dex. Estoc scales with a C so if you're going based off scaling, BSS is better in the long run. Movesets are different though and you have to pick what you like the best. I think the BSS is one of the best weapons in the game period.
